Lindsay's Successful Placement

Successful Placement                                P1020488_small.jpg

Lindsay joined the Valley Transitionz programme in February 2007. The volunteer tasks and contract gardening work that he was involved in helped to build up his confidence.

By August 2007, Lindsay was confident enough to start part time work as a Laundry Assistant/Housekeeper at Summerset Trentham. He worked 3 hour shifts 3 days a week. He had to ensure the laundry was washed, dried, folded and put away in the correct cupboards, in three hours, that could be 3 loads of laundry. While waiting for the laundry to be washed and dried, Lindsay was responsible for cleaning 9 bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms!! It is a lot to fit into 3 hours but Lindsay got himself into a routine and enjoys the work.

The Manager at Summerset Trentham was very impressed with Lindsay's diligence and reliability and at his 6 month review, he was offered more hours and an extension of his work placement for a further 3 months. His job now also includes playing the piano in the residents' lounge. Lindsay composes his own music and the residents enjoy and look forward to the half hour "concert" on the days Lindsay works.

A year on, Lindsay has been offered a permanent job at Summerset Trentham. He is always willing to work extra shifts when offered them. Having paid work has helped Lindsay in more ways than just financially. His confidence and self esteem has been given a boost and he is now looking towards meeting one of his long term goals. That is to be able to afford to live independently.
