Jacques' Successful Placement
Jacques had been out of regular work for over 7 years when he joined the Valley Transitionz programme. He was lacking in confidence and motivation. Jacques undertook his volunteer tasks at Take 5 in Knights Road, Lower Hutt. About six weeks after joining our programme, Jacques saw a contract job advertised on the Valley Transitionz noticeboard. He decided he would ask about it. The job involved cleaning at Waterloo Station for 6 hours a week and Jacques decided he would give it a go. Jacques found the work hard at first as he had been out of work for so long, but he has now got himself into a routine and finds it much easier. Jacques enjoys his job at the railway station, which involves cleaning the kiosk's windows and floors, getting rid of graffiti and stickers on the walls, cleaning the public toilets and making sure the bus shelters are litter free. After about a month, the employers were so impressed with the standard of work that they asked Valley Transitionz whether Jacques would like to work more hours. He now works 15 hours a week at the station. When the employers moved premises and decided they needed a cleaner to come into the offices and clean, they offered Valley Transitionz another cleaning contract. Jacques put his hand up for that contract too and the employers are more than happy as he is a worker they know they can rely on. Jacques asked Valley Transitionz if we could support him in this new contract for a little while and we have been more than happy to do that. Jacques feels he has really achieved something useful.
